Germany’s MERIDIAN partner BALM has officially launched the Stellplatz-Informationsdienst (SID), marking an important step toward smarter and more reliable truck parking information along the German motorway network.

SID uses OBU-derived data to generate real-time availability of truck parking spaces. A simple color-coded display shows whether a parking area is full (red) or still has capacity (green), helping drivers quickly identify suitable places to take their legally required rest breaks.

The data is openly available via the German Mobilithek, enabling service providers to integrate SID information into navigation systems, apps, and logistics platforms.

Even though truck parking capacity remains a challenge across Europe, SID represents a meaningful step forward: it delivers consistent, data-driven information that supports drivers, improves planning, and contributes to safer and more efficient freight mobility.
