Deliverable 41 – D4.17 – Operational DRS Tool

Traffic management scripts (also known as traffic management plans) are prescriptions of measurements to be taken when a specific traffic event occurs (e.g. accidents, traffic jam, road works etc). These scripts ensure traffic flow and safety on highways and secundary roads. The previous way of working with traffic management scripts (creating, updating, validation, and applying) was inefficient and inaccurate. The traffic management scripts were only available on paper or pdf format.

Scope of the DRS project was to develop an application for digitizing traffic management scripts which enables traffic management authorities to collaborate in an effective and efficient manner. The application also ensures that all traffic management authorities have the same, correct and actual information.

The DRS application enables a change to a digitized administration of traffic management scripts with results in:

  • Efficient and effective ways in creating, updating, validating and applying traffic management scripts;
  • Effective collaboration of traffic management authorities;
  • Reduction of the number of scripts (management burden);
  • Drafting of scripts is much more simple (saving time);
  • Fewer errors during deployment (reliability).

Deliverables of the DRS project are:

  • DIEGO : web-based application for creating, updating, validation, and applying traffic management scripts, available for all traffic authorities;
  • E-learning and manual: user guides of DIEGO;
  • Data migration: information of all current traffic management scripts (total number of 1092) were manually migrated into DIEGO.
