T5.07 IT ICT empowerment in Verona Quadrante Europa RRT

Overview/ summary

The IT network of the Verona freight village is a project conceived by Consorzio ZAI in 1998 that has allowed to wire up the optical fibre in the entire area of the node.

After 25 years this infrastructure has to be renewed and improved because the needs of transport operators and IT services have been changed very quickly during these years.

Over the last 20 years, the infrastructure has turned out to be essential for the Verona freight village, especially for the technological progress and for the safety and security of the entire area. There is therefore a need to update the network with targeted interventions to satisfy the increasing demand of IT services requested by the players operating in the area.

The last improvement of this ICT infrastructure concerned an update of the backbone, new datacenters and server rooms together with a video surveillance system.

Within MERIDIAN Consorzio ZAI will complete this improvement in order to increase safety and security in data-exchange on the TEN-T corridors to improve the efficiency of the terminal operations. The foreseen activities are:

  1. An update and strengthen of the optical fibre coverage to satisfy the request for a more efficient and safer data exchange inside the intermodal terminals, among the operators and on the entire freight village area.
  2. The replacement of the active network devices
  3. The modernization of the hyperconverged cloud infrastructure
  4. The upgrade of the freight village security system

Introduction
