Since the establishment of the Autobahn GmbH, strategic corridor management with neighbouring countries has been one of the tasks of the traffic control centres. Cross-border activities have been observed in recent years, revealing that the north-south axis, including the Brenner Corridor, must be given priority. With the help of MERIDIAN, contacts were established with road construction authorities and regions in the responsible neighbouring countries of Austria and Italy. For the past two years, an expert group (comprising representatives from highway authorities, research institutes, and the Alpine region) has been meeting regularly in dedicated working groups to discuss the following topics:

• Workgroup 1: technical/operational collaboration
• Workgroup 2: data analysis
• Workgroup 3: communication/public relations
• Workgroup 4: coordination of road works/construction sites

A final version 1.0 of a strategic handbook was published at the end of 2025 (see appendix).
